About this place
Hanging its noren along Yotsume-dori in Sumida Ward's Narihira neighbourhood, Kagahiro draws diners in search of hearty motsuyaki skewers and simmered offal. The signature starter to order once seated is the motsu nikomi with tofu. Braised in miso until meltingly soft, the offal shares the bowl with seasoned, broth-soaked tofu, providing an earthy accompaniment to your opening drink.
The grilled skewers are cut noticeably large, with thick cuts of pork temple (kashira), tongue, and pleasantly chewy cartilage allowing diners to savour the character of each cut. Classics like garlic-scented horumon in sweet-savoury sauce, rich abura, and tender shiro all pair effortlessly with drinks. Skewers are generally ordered in pairs of 2, making it convenient for solo diners to pick their favourite cuts thoughtfully or for groups to sample several varieties across the table.
Beverages range from staple white and black Hoppy to draft Sapporo Black Label and bottled Akaboshi lager. The sour selection is broad and eccentric, featuring sour-plum baisu, guarana, and the sunchi sour, which blends almond aromatics with bright lemon notes. Regulars often take advantage of the one-sho bottle keep for Kinmiya shochu, providing dependable refreshment for lingering drinking sessions.
Counter and table seating accommodate solitary post-work drinks just as comfortably as group toasts. Grazing on daily chalkboard specials while waiting for skewers to turn golden over the grill makes for an unpretentious, deeply satisfying Tokyo downtown night.
